[Flag of Nationalist Congress Party] by André Coutanche, 3 February 2006

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP, with 9 members of the Lok Sabha, a split from Congress, uses a orange-white green flag in the same pattern as the Eritrean national flag, with its electoral symbol, an alarm clock, in the space corresponding to that of the coat of arms in the flag of Eritrea. Images can be seen
here and here.

I saw on TV a rally of the Indian Nationalist Congress Party with a saffron (actually more orange) over green flag with a white triangle based at the hoist with its apex at the fly and an alarm clock in black in the hoist. It can also be seen at the party website, http://www.ncp.org.in/.

This party is an off-shoot of the Congress Party. In the image above, I have moved the clock away from the hoist, since it seems to have been pushed there by the other images on it, as indicated by the image seen in a larger picture at www.ncp.org.in/origin.htm. This page also has the details about the foundation and policies of the party.

We have the usual problem with the colours, of (a) satisfactorily representing saffron on a monitor and (b) the inconsistency between the theoretical colours, all derived from the original Congress flag, and the actual colours observed in use. I have used browser-safe colours which seem a reasonable representation of what we see in the photo at www.ncp.org.in/origin.htm.
